Tahira Hasan
Social ActivistTahira Hasan, a women’s rights activist, was born in Pratapgarh. She completed a BSc, MSc in Organic Chemistry and BEd from Aligarh Muslim University in 1985. In Gorakhpur, she worked on tuberculosis awareness campaigns among rickshaw pullers. In Azamgarh and Mau, she advocated for humane working conditions and fair wages for sari weavers, particularly women. Based in Lucknow since 1999, she has championed the rights of chikan, kamdani and zardozi workers. She participated in heritage and folk culture awareness programmes and contributed to recommendations in the 2013 Justice Verma Committee report. She continues to advocate for minorities, Dalits and women.
