Shariq Kaifi
Poetone of the most well-known contemporary voices in Urdu poetry: Sharia Kaifi, also known as Syed Sharia Hussain.
He was born on June 1, 1961, in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, where he did his B.Sc. and M.A. in Urdu. Being the son of renowned poet Kaifi Wijdani (Syed Rafaaqat Hussain), he inherits a rich poetic legacy that continues to shape his creative journey.
His first collection of ghazals, "Aam Sa Rad-e-Amal"
(1989), was followed by "Yahan Tak Roshni Aati Kahan Thi" in 2008 and a well-appreciated collection of nazms titled
"Apne Tamaashe Ka Ticket" in 2010.
Shariq Kaifi's poetry, whether it is ghazal or nazm, is unique in its tone, thought, and narration. His nazms are said to be written with a "fourth eye" to give an insight into social realities with remarkable clarity and depth. His work echoes a contemporary sensibility: clean, unadorned, and free from stylistic excess, yet layered with profound meaning.
